What are weeds? Weeds are unwanted plants in your garden or lawn that fight other plants and grasses for light nutrients, space, and water. Weeds are a great nuisance for many people, so it’s important to get them under control. A common problem that people have with weed control is that it hurts their plants. This is likely an applicator error. When treating weeds it is important to only treat the problem spot.

Our weed control service eliminates unwanted weeds while not destroying your landscape. We only use proven methods to help get your weeds under control and make your landscape look great. With other landscaping companies, you have the risk of them killing your plants with harmful sprays. With them, often the weeds will grow back while your plants do not.

Have Patience

Weed control can take time to be effective. Many times they will show up right when you think you have got them under control. Weeds will almost always find a way to come back no matter how hard you try or how much effort you put in.

Using Mulch to Control Weeds

One way to combat weeds is to mulch over them. Mulch blocks the weed seeds from sunlight, which inhibits the growth of the weeds. Mulch also provides other benefits. For example, much provides nutrients as it decomposes over time. Here are two tips for applying mulch:

  • Cover the soil between your plants
  • Keep the mulch away from the base of the plants to prevent rot and discourage insect invasions

There are organic mulches and inorganic mulches. Common organic mulches include wood chips and shredded leaves. Inorganic mulches include black plastic. Some benefits of organic mulches include weed control, minimizes soil erosion, and considering soil moisture. Inorganic mulch doesn’t provide the nutritional benefits of organic mulch, but there are still benefits of using it. Inorganic mulches are low maintenance, retain moisture, and has high availability in garden centers. Overall, organic mulch can provide more benefits to your lawn, but inorganic mulch doesn’t harm your plants either.

Safe Weed Control

Chemical herbicides can be seen as a quick-fix to all of one’s weed problems. This is why sprays have mass appeal. But there are drawbacks of using herbicides that many don’t consider.

There are two types of herbicides, selective and non-selective. Selective herbicides aim to kill certain types of weeds while not harming the other plants. Non-selective herbicides can kill most plants. Typically, selective herbicides are used when treating lawns and gardens. Chemical herbicides should be used as a last resort. Other methods are organic and more environmentally friendly.

It is important to avoid disturbing the soil. Weeds need sunlight and warm soil to germinate. When they are buried under soil or mulch, they cannot germinate. If the soil is disturbed, like when pulling weeds, the seeds under the soil can take over. This is why when we need to dig up weeds, we will do so with care.
